Why Play at VEA?

Why should my child play at VEA?

Recreational League Balanced and Teams:

VEA does not construct baseball teams based the town that you live in.   Each team contains players from a variety of local school districts.    Each new player entering a division is evaluated and drafted on a team to keep teams balanced.

Great Centralized Location:

The VEA league is located in Richland Township which is has a short travel distance from numerous school districts.  We have players from the following school districts:

  • Richland
  • Windber
  • Forest Hills
  • Portage
  • Conemaugh Township
  • Conemaugh Valley
  • Westmont
  • Ferndale
  • Johnstown
  • Somerset
  • Ligonier
  • Divine Mercy
  • and more...

League Growth:

VEA is the largest recreational baseball and softball league in the area. VEA has over 60 teams and nearly 600 players.

Softball:

VEA is the largest community softball league in the area.

Cost and Fundraisers:

Unlike other local leagues, you have the choice to participate in fundraisers allowing you to completely cover your cost of registration costing you nothing to play.   Other local leagues have hundreds of dollars in hidden costs such as concession stand buy-outs and  required fundraising or buy-outs.

VE merged with Arbutus Baseball League in is often known as VE, VEA, VE Arbutus.

The VE Arbutus Softball/Baseball League is proud to offer organized T-Ball, Baseball and Softball for boys and girls in our area. Our organization has the goal of continuing to offer youth baseball and softball within our community.  Both VE Erickson and Arbutus are established leagues with long running traditions. We are conveniently located along Eisenhower Blvd. at the Geistown/Richland Lions Club Recreational Park and at Luray Avenue Community Park

Eligibility will be determined by the following cut off dates:

T-Ball and Baseball – Determination your League Age here.

What we offer at VE Arbutus:
  • 5 premium fields which accommodate all of our divisions at both the VE Erickson ballpark and Arbutus ballpark.
  • Your kids can experience playing baseball and softball under the lights.
  • Everyone plays in every game and all players receive a full uniform.
  • We emphasize FUN and COMMUNITY which will help lead to a lifelong love of the game.

The following baseball and softball divisions are offered :

T-Ball – (boys and girls ages 4-5) - This year at VE we will offer a T-Ball only program for our 4-5 year old boys and girls.  We will focus on developing the fundamentals of the game with an emphasis on throwing and batting.  We play with a reduced roster size in order to allow each child to have more at bats during each game and more opportunities to make plays in the field.    Age 6 can optionally play t-ball or in the next division.

Ponytail Softball – (girls ages 6-8) - The ponytail division is a competitive stepping stone for our girls to further develop their skills and their knowledge of the game.  First time players will feel comfortable starting in this division. We emphasize throwing technique, hitting coaches’ pitching, catching, and running the bases.  The focus of this division is learning and preparing each of the girls to move on to the upper softball divisions.

Softball – (girls ages 9-18) – Divisions are 10U, 12U, 15U, and 18U. The softball divisions of VE are for girls to play competitively against teams from other leagues in our areas.

Rookie (A)– (boys ages 6-7) – The rookie A baseball division is a competitive stepping stone for our boys to further develop their knowledge of the game.  This division is for boys that have developed their skills to move on from T-Ball and still need work before entering the Rookie AA Baseball division.  This will be a coach-pitch division that will be played under a modified set of rules.  We will strongly emphasize fundamentals in this division.

Rookie (AA) - (boys ages 7-8)  – The rookie AA baseball division is a competitive stepping stone for our boys to further develop their knowledge of the game.  This division is for boys that have developed their skills to move on from rookie A and still need work before entering the Minor League Baseball division.  This will be a modified kid pitch division that will be played under similar rules as the Minor League Baseball division.  We will strongly emphasize fundamentals in this division.

Minor League Baseball (AAA) – (boys ages 9-10) - Our minor league baseball division will play all games in house. No travel.  This is a competitive league where the boys will have the opportunity to pitch and further develop their skills.

Major League Baseball – (boys ages 11-12) - Like our minor league program, the major league division will play all games in house. No travel. In this division, the boys will advance their skills and play competitively against their peers within our league.
